Reasons Why Botox May Not Be Working on Your Forehead

Botox is one of the most effective treatments when it comes to eliminating wrinkles. It’s rare to see cases of Botox being ineffective on the forehead especially if it was administered by a qualified and experienced provider. Despite its high efficacy rate, there are cases when Botox injections on the forehead don’t produce the same results clients expect. When this happens, most clients assume that they’re simply immune to the toxin and that Botox is not a viable treatment for them.

So what could be the reasons behind Botox not working on forehead wrinkles? Some of the most common ones involve not getting enough Botox units for your skin issue, Botox not being injected correctly, or it could also be that some wrinkles are at a certain depth and could only be corrected so much. For clients who have had Botox work before, it’s also possible that you’ve developed antibodies that have made you resistant to Botox.

What is Botox Resistance?

Botox resistance happens when your body has developed either antibodies against the drug or metabolic responses that allow the body to flush out the toxin at exceptionally higher rates. A client who is resistant to Botox will show underwhelming results after getting injections, often resulting in short-lived effects or showing no effects at all.

If you suspect that you may have Botox resistance, keep in mind that this condition is extremely rare. Trials show that less than 1.5% of clients developed antibodies to Botox. According to studies, there are as few as 1 in 10,000 clients that have a true resistance to Botox. You might want to consider other reasons why you’re not happy with your forehead Botox results.

Reasons Why Botox Isn’t Working on Your Forehead

1) The Botox Injection Still Has to Gain Its Full Effect

Some clients notice fewer wrinkles on their face in as little as 48 hours after treatment, which is a testament to how Botulinum toxin can quickly show results. On the other hand, it’s also possible that results may take up to 14 days for the toxin to produce significant effects on the forehead.

Just like food, our bodies metabolize injections differently. A delayed response is normal which is why providers may advise clients to be more patient when it comes to waiting for the results of Botox treatments.

If 2 weeks have passed since your treatment and you haven’t seen anything change, it’s time to visit your provider and get things checked.

2) You Have Switched to a New Provider

Providers will sometimes take a conservative approach during the initial treatments knowing that it’s far safer to under-treat with Botox cosmetic than overdo it. Your provider might administer the smallest effective dose of Botox during your first visit.

If you switch providers, they might err on the side of caution and do the same, resulting in a low Botox dose. This is why it’s crucial to work with a master injector who understands the nuances of Botox treatment and will give you expert advice and treatment.

3) The Aging Process Is Catching Up To You

Even if you’re getting regular injections as part of your preventative Botox maintenance, you have to remember that your body is still aging naturally and thus will produce less collagen and elastin over time.

If you’re seeing no improvements on your wrinkle volume after Botox treatment, it could be that your aging process has accelerated, which results in a decrease of facial fat volume and deepening of lines.

In this case, your provider will likely suggest other injectable fillers apart from your Botox treatment in order to address other problems in your skin. Some fillers are usually added to plump the skin and maintain a youthful look while maintaining your natural facial expressions while injectables like Botox relax the facial muscles which in turn reduces the movement that causes wrinkles.

4) You May Be Better Suited For Dysport

It could be that your skin reacts better to other injectable products or cosmetic treatments such as Dysport or dermal filler products just as some clients always get good results with Botox. Your provider will determine if this is the case and will recommend the necessary switch to get the results that you want.

5) Your Previous Provider Made Wrong Injections

It does happen that providers commit errors or miscalculations when it comes to administering Botulinum toxin injections, especially if you’re dealing with less experienced providers. A qualified provider for Botox treatments has thorough knowledge of facial anatomy, the ability to interpret a client’s goals and apply the correct dosage based on their skin type and needs.

In your case, your provider could’ve used the wrong dose on your forehead muscle or injected it at an incorrect point on the facial muscle. This is why it’s so crucial to look for the right provider so you can get the peace of mind knowing you (and your facial wrinkles) are in the best hands.

What to Do When Botox Doesn’t Work on the Face Anymore

It’s best to talk to your provider to figure out what to do with your case specifically. If it’s just a matter of dosage adjustments for your anti wrinkle injection, your provider should get the right dose for the results that you want.

However, if you’ve gone to the same provider multiple times without any improvements, consider switching providers. Look for a med spa with a proven track record of successful Botox injections and bring your record of previous treatments on your first visit to help your new provider get up to speed.
