If you've been researching platelet-rich fibrin treatments, you've probably noticed that "PRF" isn't one-size-fits-all. Two forms, PRF EZ Gel and Liquid PRF, are used at Evolve Med Spa for different goals and different areas of the face and scalp. Both start with your own blood and harness the power of your body's natural growth factors. But the way they're prepared, delivered, and experienced is meaningfully different.
This guide breaks down exactly how each form of PRF works, what makes EZ Gel a unique advancement over traditional liquid PRF, and how to think about which one might be right for your skin or hair goals. (For a full overview of PRF treatments at Evolve, including candidacy, safety, and aftercare, visit our dedicated PRF service page.)
Platelet-rich fibrin is made from your own blood, drawn in-office, just like a routine lab draw. The difference is what happens next. Your blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun at a carefully controlled speed. Unlike older platelet therapies, PRF is spun at a lower speed without anticoagulants, which preserves the fibrin matrix, a three-dimensional scaffold that holds platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors together.
That fibrin network is what makes PRF genuinely different from its predecessor, PRP (platelet-rich plasma). PRP releases growth factors quickly, like opening a floodgate. PRF releases them gradually, over days to weeks, because the growth factors are embedded in the fibrin mesh. The result is a more sustained regenerative signal to your tissue.
Key growth factors concentrated in PRF include PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor), VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), TGF-β, and IGF, all involved in collagen production, cellular repair, and new blood vessel formation.
Both EZ Gel and Liquid PRF start here. The centrifuge settings and tube preparation are what determine which form you get.
Liquid PRF is spun at a slightly higher relative centrifugal force (RCF) and drawn from the upper-middle layer of the vial, the buffy coat zone just below the plasma. The result is a golden, fluid serum that can be loaded into a syringe and injected directly into tissue.
What it's ideal for:
Because Liquid PRF is fluid, it distributes evenly through tissue and begins releasing growth factors relatively quickly. It works with, not instead of, your body's existing repair mechanisms, which is why results build over time rather than appearing overnight.
For hair restoration specifically, Liquid PRF injected into the scalp reaches hair follicles in their resting (telogen) phase and helps signal them back into active growth. Multiple sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart are typically recommended for meaningful hair density improvements.
PRF EZ Gel takes the regenerative concept further by adding a thermal activation step. After centrifugation, the PRF is gently heated, typically to around 75–80°C, which causes the fibrin proteins to polymerize and transform from a liquid into a gel-like consistency. No synthetic additives. No cross-linking agents. Just your own biology, concentrated and converted.
The resulting gel has a smooth, cohesive texture that behaves similarly to a soft hyaluronic acid filler. It can be injected with a cannula or needle into areas where traditional liquid PRF would simply disperse, giving it volumizing and structural properties that liquid PRF cannot achieve on its own.
What makes EZ Gel distinct:
Where EZ Gel excels:
The dual action, immediate structural correction plus long-term biological stimulation, is what separates EZ Gel from both traditional filler and basic PRF. As the gel is absorbed over 4–8 weeks, the area has been flooded with growth factors the entire time, stimulating new collagen and elastin while simultaneously restoring lost volume.
| Factors | PRF EZ Gel | Liquid PRF |
| Consistency | Soft gel (thermally activated) | Golden fluid serum |
| Delivery method | Cannula or needle injection | Needle injection or topical |
| Best for | Volume, structural correction | Fine lines, scalp, microneedling |
| Growth factor release | Slow, sustained (weeks) | Relatively faster initial release |
| Volumizing effect | Yes, immediate + biological | Minimal, stimulation only |
| Hair restoration | Less common | Primary use for scalp |
| Sessions needed | 1–3, spaced 4–6 weeks | 3–4+, spaced 4–6 weeks |
| Results timeline | Visible improvement 4–8 weeks | Gradual, 6–12 weeks for full effect |
Whether you're having EZ Gel or Liquid PRF, the appointment begins the same way: a small blood draw, typically 2–4 tubes depending on the treatment area and your provider's protocol. That blood goes directly into the centrifuge, the processing takes about 12–15 minutes.
For EZ Gel, there's an additional thermal activation step. The spun tubes are placed in a heating device for a few minutes to convert the PRF into gel form. You'll likely see this happening at the treatment station, the transformation from liquid to gel is visible.
During the procedure:
Most patients describe PRF treatments as very tolerable, typically a 2–3 out of 10 on discomfort with numbing. Some swelling and tenderness is normal immediately after, especially with EZ Gel injections into the mid-face.
Immediately after:
The "dip" between weeks 2–4 is normal for EZ Gel patients: the initial gel volume softens before the biological regeneration catches up. Final results are typically visible at 6–8 weeks post-treatment.
Liquid PRF (Skin / Under-eye):
Liquid PRF (Scalp / Hair):
PRF EZ Gel (Face):
Unlike synthetic fillers, PRF EZ Gel doesn't require enzymatic dissolution if you're unhappy with placement, it resorbs naturally. And unlike filler alone, the biological stimulation component means your skin genuinely looks healthier, not just fuller.
The honest answer: many patients benefit from both, used for different purposes. EZ Gel and Liquid PRF aren't competing treatments, they're complementary tools in a regenerative aesthetics plan.

At Evolve Med Spa, your provider will assess your anatomy, goals, and timeline to recommend the right combination. Many patients start with Liquid PRF and add EZ Gel as part of a full regenerative facial plan.
