Thorough treatment

I went to Evolve Med Spa for an IPL facial and had a great experience and great service. My provider carefully questioned me before the procedure started, and I pointed out areas of concern on my face. I have had this procedure done before and I think this was the most thorough IPL I've ever gotten. I can already tell the results are going to be good only two days later.

Evolve Med Spa is the only place I trust with my skin!! I've been to sooo many different spa's over the 15+ years for the treatment of my skin and I can say not only are all the aestheticians and nurse practitioners educated and kind, they really are the best of the best. I am currently in the process of getting my skin wedding prep ready and I cannot wait to see the results for the big day!

Pressure free visit

Evolve is perfect for clients wanting to dip their toe into the med spa world. I was not ready for botox, etc and had felt pressured at previous places. At Evolve they were not pushy but happy to help, listen to my concerns and make recommendations for my skincare journey. Loved my results, and would recommend it for those wanting a more “natural” plan.

Frequently Asked Questions about Candela Photofacial

What does a laser photofacial feel like?

Most patients describe the sensation as a quick "rubber band snap." To maximize your comfort, the Candela system features a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) that sprays a soothing burst of cryogen before every laser pulse.

What areas of the body can be treated?

We can treat unwanted pigment almost anywhere. While the face is most common, this photofacial laser treatment is highly effective for the hands, chest, shoulders, and arms.

What should I expect immediately after my photofacial treatment?

Spots will likely turn darker—often called the "coffee ground effect"—immediately after your session. These dark spots naturally flake off within 7 to 14 days to reveal clearer skin underneath.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients achieve optimal results with a series of 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the depth and age of the pigmentation.

Can I get a Photofacial if I have melasma?

While excellent for sun damage, melasma can sometimes react poorly to heat. We recommend a consultation to determine if this laser is the right choice for your specific pigment type.

How do I prepare for a Photofacial?
    • Avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment until your physician allows it.
    • Any topical medications or skin care products are recommended to be stopped 3-5 days prior to treatment, depending on your own skin sensitivities.
    • Perioral herpes simplex virus, any active skin lesions in or near the treatment area, please make sure to postpone if you have an active flare.
    • If you have had a history of perioral herpes simplex virus, your provider may recommend prophylactic antiviral therapy when treating that area. Follow the directions for your particular medication.
    • RECENTLY TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated within 2 weeks of active (natural sunlight or tanning booth) tanning, you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) and this may not be clear for 2-3 months or more.
    • The use of self-tanning skin care products must be discontinued one week before treatment.
    • Any residual self-tanner must be removed prior to treatment.
    • This treatment cannot be performed on pregnant or breastfeeding women
What is the aftercare for Photofacial treatments?
    • Immediately after treatment, there may be erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment.
    • Your provider may use an optional cooling method immediately following treatment to ensure your comfort.
    • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (dark pigmentation).
    • Use sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment.
    • The treated pigment will appear darker immediately (coffee ground appearance) and within the first few days following treatment. The darkened pigment will flake off like dry skin within 7-14 days. Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
    • There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours.
